‍Breton Album of the Year

‍The 2025 Album of the Year awardee is Dinaskañ, the wonderful second recording by the group Eben.

‍Of course you can read the review linked in the highlighted text above, but in summary this is an incredibly deep, thoughtful, imaginative and nuanced recording that blows us away, including the lovely packaging for the recording, a substantial part of the experience completely lacking in streaming-only products.

‍Honorable mention goes out to the reborn group Barzaz for their double-disc recording War Al Leurenn, returning after a very lengthy hiatus.

‍Notes: The way that a living genre of music presents itself over changing times in recordings means that, for some years there were numerous competing titles that could have taken the top honors (we occasionally award up to two if it’s super-close), while in other years there were relatively few decent releases. ATB won’t  pick an awardee just to fill the slot for that year. We try to base the award nominee pool on the formal release date of the recordings, but occasionally, if we got our hands on the recording a year later or if it was released right at the end of the year, we may choose to place the recording in the running for that year instead.

‍We recently decided to make the Album of the Year a retroactive award for more distant times, so we’ve now gone all the way back to the 1980s, when one of our main contributors was an adolescent and the other a child.
